Grain bins are essential structures in the agricultural landscape, safeguarding valuable harvests from the elements. However, with use over time, these structures can succumb to leaks around the base of the bins that compromise the integrity of the stored grains. Enter Sani-Tred’s Grain Bin Waterproofing. A cutting-edge waterproofing solution that promises not only to seal and protect grain bins but to do so with a level of durability and flexibility that is unmatched in the industry.
Sani-Tred is not your typical waterproofing product. Unlike conventional coatings that may provide a temporary solution, Sani-Tred products will deliver a permanent and flexible seal, ensuring the longevity and structural integrity of grain bins. The secret lies in the unique physical properties of the materials, which combines adhesive technology with unparalleled waterproofing capabilities.
The application’s step by step is on this page. Applying Sani-Tred products to grain bins is a straightforward process, making it accessible to both seasoned professionals and DIY enthusiasts. The first step involves thorough surface preparation. Clean the surface of the grain bin, removing any dirt, rust, or previous coatings by sand blasting.
Once the surface is prepared, the next step is to apply a prime coat of PermaFlex (240 sq’ per gal). PermaFlex is a liquid rubber coating that cures to become as tough as a tire and provides adhesion to the galvanized steel as well as the concrete. This serves as the foundation for the subsequent layers, enhancing adhesion and promoting long-lasting waterproofing. PermaFlex is easily applied, can be brushed, rolled or sprayed offering versatility to suit various application preferences.
After PermaFlex has been applied around the bin, it is usually cured enough to being applying the next step. Mix 2-parts LRB (Liquid Rubber Base) with 1-part TAV (Thickening Activator). This creates a thickened mixture similar in viscosity as caulk. This mixture can be scraped into heavy duty Ziploc freezer bags, cut the corner and squeeze it out like caulk. A 1-1/4” diameter caulk bead of LRB/TAV mixture is applied around the base of the bin and swiped smooth using a brush dipped in Xylene or Acetone. This mixture molecularly welds to the prime coat of PermaFlex, cures to become as tough as a tire and remains flexible. After the LRB/TAV mixture has been applied around the base of the bin, it is usually cured enough to continue with the last step.
